Defrost duration excessive.

A defrost cycle runs materially longer than the case's commissioned duration. A long defrost adds heat to the case and its product and wastes defrost energy, and often signals a termination-sensing or heater problem.

Preconditions
Controller exposes defrost start and end with timestamps; commissioned expected duration configured per case; feed health confirmed.

Action plan
(1) Confirm actual defrost duration from start/end timestamps against the case's commissioned expected duration. (2) Assess whether the overrun is isolated or repeating, and correlate with post-defrost case temperature. (3) Check for a termination-condition or heater fault the long duration implies. (4) Where a controllable timing parameter is exposed, correct remotely; otherwise scope a dispatch with the duration evidence.
Escalation
(1) Overruns that repeatedly push the case out of band after defrost → escalate as a product-protection issue. (2) A pattern pointing to a failed termination sensor or heater → dispatch to the refrigeration vendor within SLA.
Prevention
(1) Commission the expected defrost duration and termination condition per case so an overrun is scored against the right target. (2) Review cases with rising defrost durations at cadence — a drifting duration precedes a termination failure.
