Refrigeration Rack Monitoring & Protection.

Monitors the centralized refrigeration rack from its controller — discharge and suction pressure against commissioned limits, protection trips and resets, and the pump-down sequence. A rack fault affects every case the rack feeds at once, so catching it early protects the whole rack's product.

01 Executive Summary

Impact, and what it solves.

Impact: Catches a rack-level fault — a walking discharge pressure, a starving suction, an incomplete pump-down — before a protection trip takes the whole rack and its product offline at once, and elevates simultaneous case alarms to the rack instead of chasing each case.

What it solves: A centralized refrigeration rack feeds many cases through shared compressors and suction/discharge circuits, so a rack fault — high-side pressure walking toward a trip, low-side pressure starving cases, a protection trip, or a pump-down that leaves refrigerant where it should not be — puts every case on the rack at risk at the same time, unlike a single terminal case. Keedian reads the rack controller for the plant's own operational signals: discharge pressure against its commissioned high and trip limits and reset behavior, suction pressure against its active operating target, and the pump-down sequence against its setpoint, delay, and observed request/state. It correlates simultaneous case alarms to their serving rack so an event is elevated to the rack — power, controller, or shared circuit — rather than chased case by case. Alarms are managed and routed to the customer's refrigeration vendor with a recommended action. Applies only where a centralized rack exposes compatible rack/controller telemetry — self-contained units and Foodservice are out of scope for this release.

02 Optimization Metrics

The metrics you'll want to optimize.

These are the operational metrics this add-on monitors and alarms on. Keedian surfaces them and, where the contract includes managed service, triages them; acting on the physical asset stays with you and your vendors.

The core metrics are summarized below. Full methodology, thresholds, diagnosis steps, and escalation criteria are in the Metrics Catalog.

Refrigeration · Rack protection · Continuity
Rack Discharge Pressure

Whether the rack holds discharge (high-side) pressure under control against its commissioned limits, and whether its protection sequence behaves. Sustained high discharge pressure, an approach to the trip threshold, a discharge trip, or repeated auto-resets each put the whole rack — and every case it feeds — at risk at once. The high-discharge setpoint, delay, and trip fields are controller / commissioning parameters, not separate metrics.

Rack Suction Pressure

Whether the rack holds suction (low-side) pressure against its active operating target. Suction that runs high past its delay starves case temperatures across the rack; suction that runs low past its delay wastes energy and stresses compressors. Persistent deviation from the controller setpoint is the signal — the high / low setpoints and delays are configuration inputs, and one metric covers both directions rather than one metric per direction.

Rack Pump-Down Performance

Whether the rack's pump-down sequence completes as commissioned — reaching its pump-down setpoint within its delay, not aborting, and not repeating abnormally. A pump-down that fails to reach setpoint, is left incomplete, or short-cycles risks liquid return and compressor damage. Setpoint and delay alone do not activate the metric: it requires a pump-down request / state plus suction pressure and timestamps as evidence the sequence actually ran.

Each metric includes definition, detection logic, diagnosis steps, recommended actions, escalation criteria, and prevention controls. Thresholds are reference values to be calibrated per client.

03 Scope

What's included.

Rack discharge and suction pressure are held against commissioned limits, protection trips and repeated resets are caught, and the pump-down sequence is verified — so a rack-level fault is worked before it takes the whole rack offline. Expected (pending validation).

  • Rack discharge-pressure monitoring against commissioned high, trip, and reset limits
  • Rack suction-pressure monitoring against the active operating target
  • Pump-down sequence verification from request/state, setpoint, and suction evidence
  • Simultaneous case alarms correlated to their serving rack — elevate to the rack, not the case
  • No remote control — monitoring only; the rack repair stays with the customer's refrigeration vendor

The rack alarms run as managed workflows on the same accountability as the rest of the contract — surfaced, triaged, correlated across the rack's cases, and routed to the customer's refrigeration vendor with a recommended action and the evidence.

04 Hardware

What it needs.

Hardware No additional hardware where the rack controller exposes discharge / suction / pump-down telemetry; sensing scoped per rack / controller integration where it does not
